Restoring Christ As The Head Of Your Church

 

The Bible declares that Christ is the head of the true Church. There is also a clear biblical warning that many churches are totally deceived and corrupted. They are following blind leaders. They are teaching doctrines of men, not commands of the Lord. They are pitiful blind beggars when they think they are rich and clean. I’ll assert that the Laodicean warning in Rev 3 applies to today’s western churches.

Today’s pastors have filled in where they thought they were needed. They have replaced the call to seek and share the Holy Spirit at participatory gatherings with their best greek homilies [sermons]. They have ruled over a passive body, rather than sheparding a royal priesthood; they have relied on the extortion of tithing rather that trusting in the providence of God, robbing widows in the process. The Bible warns that those robbing widows will reap ‘the most severe’ punishment on their souls. Widow Robbers

They have ignored God’s call for volunteer preaching, hoarding the transformational power and influence of preaching for themselves; robbing the Body of Christ.

Church has deteriorated from the simple assembly with simple Biblical preaching, and seekers sharing what they hear, to a huge extravagant machine, with showy performances in extravagant comfy buildings, relying on wise sounding [unbiblical Greek homilies] sermons that will not help people to know God. Take a look.

NLT 1 Cor 1;21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.

Wise preaching tells us more and more about God, but this verse declares it is can not help us know him. Only the foolish sounding simple preaching inspired by the Holy Spirit can help people to know God.

How do we put Christ back in control

I think there are two basic steps to putting Christ back in control of our churches. The first step is to restore servant leadership throughout the church. Leaders who can not underestand their role as the servant slave, yielding to the Holy Spirit and to the will a assembly must be replaced. This article explains true  Servant Leadership.

The next step is returning to the simple particapatory gatherings described in 1 Cor 14. These Gatherings are described:  Believer Gathering Essentials  THE MAIN Believer Gathering Must be a Believer Gathering

If the laypeople at today’s fallen churches can step up to their call and let God out of the box that has been built around him, Christ can rule as the head of your church. Most believers limit the Holy Spirit because we are presumptuous. We know what we know. We don’t allow God to correct our deeper beliefs. Some don’t even allow God to correct our superficial beliefs. Even though most of us have never seen true servant leadership or the simple shared believer gathering, we are not released from our Biblical call. You may prefer to just leave things as they are, but we should not ignore the truths in the Bible.
