Widow Robbers

Lets take a look at the two verses that talk about devouring widow’s houses:

NIV Mar 12;38 As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the marketplaces, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 40 They devour widows ‘ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.”

NIV Luke 20;45 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, 46 “Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 47 They devour widows ‘ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.”

All Pastors still asking for tithes are clearly committing this sin. They are still teachers of the law. These verses declare that they will be punished most severely! How is it that they think they are working for and representing God? They’ve been handed an un-biblical unmanageable system. Is it any wonder that they struggle for survival? The simple participatory gathering, the simple preaching of the gospel is all that God asks for. But we have turned worship into extravagant performances in extravagant buildings. We have missed our calling. Rather than being the salt and the light in a dark world, we expend virtually all our efforts keeping the big machine going.

You might say, I’m no teacher of the law – I understand and teach grace. I’ll argue that if you still ask for tithes, you are still teaching the old law. In the same way the old priesthood robbed parents, you are robbing the poor and the widow. You are just as guilty of teaching law as those who taught circumcision!

NLT Matt 15;3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ 5 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’ 6 he is not to ‘honor his father’ ‘ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: 8 ” ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men. Dear God,

Please end this worshipping in vain, and help all seekers to Worship In Spirit And In Truth, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
