Letter to Gathering – God’s Ultimate Power

All,

Thought I should share this from last nites discussions.  Eph 1 has a couple of references to the absolute sovereignty of God, something that today’s church has 100% wrong!  God is in control, even when we can not see it,– I think that this is truly the last gift of the Holy Spirit, seeing the absolute sovereignty of God on this earth – now!!!.

Here are a few key excerpts from Eph 1:

NLT Eph 1:3-8

3Blessed [is] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who did bless us in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4according as He did choose us in him before the foundation of the world, for our being holy and unblemished before Him, in love, 5having foreordained us to the adoption of sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He did make us accepted in the beloved, 7in whom we have the redemption through his blood, the remission of the trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8in which He did abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9having made known to us the secret of His will, according to His good pleasure, that He purposed in Himself.

God chooses us.  We have nothing to do with it!!  We are pawns in the hands of the potter.  He makes us marred, and lord willing in this age (life) he re-makes a few, his chosen, totally according to his will – not ours.  We have nothing to do with this.  This remaking may have started with our introduction into his holy spirit, but it will not be completed until we can appreciate that it is all him – 100% him , 0% us!!!

Rembert the verse: “I chose you”

Jn 15:16 (NLTse) 16 You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.

Why does God need to follow up the clear words that we don’t choose him, with the declaration that he chooses us.  Because we are proud beasts – he made us so!!! If we still think we had a part in this, that we are somehow better than those who have not yet accepted his “offer of salvation”, we are still sitting on the throne of our hearts – where God needs to sit!!!  This means that were are still beasts!!!!

Can we say with confidence that we have been scourged, that we are new creations in Christ???? That we are currently offering our lives as a living holy sacrifice???? The chosen are called to confidence in this statement.

NLT 2 Cor 5-6

5Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith. 6As you test yourselves, I hope you will recognize that we have not failed the test of apostolic authority.

I think that when God shows us that we are “according to the working of the power of His might” (vs 19)

give(s) to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the recognition of him, (vs 17)

Only then can we see his power, his rule over what happens on the earth!!!

NLT Eph 1:17-23

17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of the glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the recognition of him, 18the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, for your knowing what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19and what the exceeding greatness of His power to us who are believing, according to the working of the power of His might, 20which He wrought in the Christ, having raised him out of the dead, and did set [him] at His right hand in the heavenly [places], 21far above all principality, and authority, and might, and lordship, and every name named, not only in this age, but also in the coming one; 22and all things He did put under his feet, and did give him — head over all things to the assembly, 23which is his body, the fulness of Him who is filling the all in all,

Galatians 1:1-5)

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, to the saints who are in Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Spiritual Blessings

(Romans 8:28-34)

3Blessed [is] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who did bless us in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4according as He did choose us in him before the foundation of the world, for our being holy and unblemished before Him, in love, 5having foreordained us to the adoption of sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He did make us accepted in the beloved, 7in whom we have the redemption through his blood, the remission of the trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8in which He did abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9having made known to us the secret of His will, according to His good pleasure, that He purposed in Himself, 10in regard to the dispensation of the fulness of the times, to bring into one the whole in the Christ, both the things in the heavens, and the things upon the earth — in him; 11in whom also we did obtain an inheritance, being foreordained according to the purpose of Him who the all things is working according to the counsel of His will, 12for our being to the praise of His glory, [even] those who did first hope in the Christ, 13in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth — the good news of your salvation — in whom also having believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of the promise, 14which is an earnest of our inheritance, to the redemption of the acquired possession, to the praise of His glory.

Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom

15Because of this I also, having heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and the love to all the saints, 16do not cease giving thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers, 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of the glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the recognition of him, 18the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, for your knowing what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19and what the exceeding greatness of His power to us who are believing, according to the working of the power of His might, 20which He wrought in the Christ, having raised him out of the dead, and did set [him] at His right hand in the heavenly [places], 21far above all principality, and authority, and might, and lordship, and every name named, not only in this age, but also in the coming one; 22and all things He did put under his feet, and did give him — head over all things to the assembly, 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

At the end of the meeting I shared this recent addition to my notes:

Excerpt from All Things Are For Your sake. truth in scripturs

“Coming to see the sovereignty of God in ALL THINGS is essential for us to grow and mature in the faith.  This understanding to me is what maturing is really all about.  Until we get the knowledge of this doctrine into our walk (our actions) we will struggle in bringing forth the fruit of the Spirit.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Gal 5:24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Love is mentioned first in the list of the FRUIT of the Spirit in Galatians 5 and for very good reason.  Lest we confuse what love truly is we are told point blank what the love of God is that represents this fruit of the Spirit.

2Jn 1:5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

We most often seem to cite 1 Joh 5:3 but here is a second black and white witness to what the definition of AGAPE or love is.

2Jn 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

As we hopefully are learning as we abide now with Christ; living with true doctrine is not enough.  We must become doers of the Word to walk in the Spirit (Jam 1:22-23).  It is when we show respect of persons and judge things in the flesh that we are not living by the truth that all things are for our sakes.  When we are not content with what the Lord is doing, we are walking in the flesh and acting double minded.  When we whine, complain, criticize, stay angry, look down upon others and have any other reaction than THANK YOU LORD, we are judging in the flesh.

We must come to know and trust in the Lord and His promises that He is working all things for the greater good.  That is how the scourging grace of the Lord, the very thing that saves us by transforming us rebounds with thanksgiving to the glory of the Lord.

Eph 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

How often have we failed at doing this?  Many times we will fall down before we learn.  It is beyond this study to cover “judging righteous judgment” but we had best learn to make judgments but to make them according to the Word of God and not the logic of this world or the carnal mind.

Joh 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

There are many witnesses of the old and new to judging the right way vs the wrong way.  I used to think of respecting persons as simply respecting their worldly economic standing but it has a much wider meaning.  Respect for persons is judging them in the flesh and not attributing what they do to the Lord and His absolute sovereignty.  Doing so is the opposite of faith.  When we put the cause and the blame on any individual, even ourselves, we are having respect of persons and judging in the flesh.  We are commanded to do no such thing.”
