Knowing Jesus, Hearing His Voice
It is interesting to see those who know Jesus and those Jesus never knew!!! We will look into the first group in this article. The second group is described in here:
God’s Three Paths See Discussion on the goats under “The Wide Road”
NIV 1 John 3: 4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
If we keep sinning we do not yet know Jesus! We have in fact not yet even seen him!! But we are liars if we claim that sin is not in us!!!
NIV 1 John 1:5-2:7
Light and Darkness, Sin and Forgiveness
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin.
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Love and Hatred for Fellow Believers
3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[a] is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. 8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.
9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister[b] is still in the darkness. 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister[c] lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
So we are not given freedom from sin. We are still sinners saved by grace. Knowing Jesus is walking as Jesus walked, obedient to God, to his commands, not thru trying but living in the spirit, taking a full portions of his flesh[living in the Bible promises], and of his blood [appreciating living in his sacrifice and his power].
NIV John 5:24-29
24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. 25 Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.
28 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. 30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
We cross over from death to life when we both hear him and follow him. These folk are not judged – there is now no condemnation! It is not those who claim in the flesh to follow Jesus. It is only those who hear his voice.
YLT John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
YLT John 3:8
the Spirit where he willeth doth blow, and his voice thou dost hear, but thou hast not known whence he cometh, and whither he goeth; thus is every one who hath been born of the Spirit.’
YLT Acts 22:14
and he said, The God of our fathers did choose thee beforehand to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice out of his mouth
NIV 1 John 5:10Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
16If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. 17All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
18We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
21Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
Verse 16 talks about sinning unto death. Let’s first take a look at that and then discuss what the rest of this passage is saying.
God tells us to keep our worship gatherings clean and pure, to reject any seekers who claim to be believers yet continue to indulge in: sexual sin [living out of wedlock, homosexuality, or participating in prostitution], greed[cheating others], the worship of idols, abuse, or drunkenness. We are to keep from even eating with these people. The promise for our obedience to thes directions is that their sinful nature will be destroyed and they saved on the day the Lord returns!
Verse 13 declares that those who truly believe in Christ and his power are delivered from sin – they have passed from death into life, and that God hears their prayers. These folks know that whenever they ask in Jesus name, he hears and answers our prayers!
If we; serve God, live righteous lives, do God’s will, cease from doing evil, learning to do good, seeking judgment [correction], reproving oppressors, helping orphans and widows our prayers will be heard!!. The verses supporting this statement are here:
Those who behave in a manner such that Jesus will hear their prayers, the righteous, are promised that their prayers will be heard! We can know by whether our prayers are answered, whether we are in this category, whether we are truly praying in Jesus name. If our prayers are not being answered we are asking amiss!!
NIV James 4:2-10
2You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
4You adulterous people,a don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in usb ? 6But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”
7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
God’s sheep hear his voice. [YLT John 10:27] These sheep are the righteous folks headed for the Kingdom of Heaven, the Goats who are chosen on the day of the Lord – at the Great White Throne, who miss out on the rewards but are still saved, still granted access to the promised land, God’s holy mountain.
But the chosen, those who both hear Jesus’ word and believe God sent him have eternal life and will not be judged. These folks have crossed over from death to life.[NIV John 5:24-29] These are the folks who never die [1st link]. The disciples of Christ, the chosen few living as new creations in Christ, these folks are headed for the Kingdom of God, for the higher reward of the prophet!!
The folks who miss out on these reward are the ones who weep and gnash their teeth. These are the unbreachable chasms described in out Bibles. Achieving or Missing out on these rewards are the only things determined in this life. The unbreachable chasm described in Luke 16:26 is the chasm between the Kingdom of Heaven, the reward of the righteous and the promised land, the lower parts of heaven. The folks who find that their disrespect of God cuts them off from God’s rewards will lament their actions.
Please help us to hear Jesus’ voice, to really know him. Turn us from sin, helping us to reject those sinning unto death, trusting that that they might be saved. Help us to serve you, to live righteous lives, to do you will, to cease from doing evil, learning to do good, seeking judgment [correction], reproving oppressors, and helping orphans and widows. In Jesus mighty name we pray, Amen.

P.S. Those who know Jesus, those who hear his voice are the chosen few, the new creations in Christ, the beheaded saints, These receive the reward of the prophet in the Kingdom of God. The ones who consider others greater than themselves, having compassion on the weak and poor, taking care of the prisoner and the widow are the sheep, chosen at the great white throne, those who wake when the lightning flashes,
When the disciples pass they create a spiritual wave that brings all the sheep with them into heaven. This first happened when Jesus died on the cross. See Link for details.
