If You Now Seek God, God First Chose You!

This passage explains that no one has ever “chosen to follow God”. If we now seek him, it is because he first drew us to him – so that no man can boast. Yes we can still reject God, refusing to repent, refusing to rely on his power to turn us from our deliberate sin. So long as we continue in our deceptions, refusing to love the truth, God will politely oblige our choice, allowing us to boast in our “choice”. Those who continue to seek him, to appreciate that he rewards those who seek him seeking the truth with all their heart, humble themselves and allow him to change the way they think!

KJV 1 Cor 1:23-29

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Those who want to boast can not boast that they have chosen to follow God. God chooses the foolish to confound the wise, the weak to confound the mighty, lowly to abase the important. This passage reinforces the idea that God first call people to him. Although it may look to us like we are choosing to follow God – He First chooses to draw us to him. In reality the best we can do is simply respond to this calling!

KJV John 6:44

44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

So when folks say that they have chosen to follow God, they are boasting, they are giving the glory that belongs to God to their flesh! Yes they could still refuse to follow God, continuing in their deliberate sins, refusing to allow God and his power to turn them from their deliberate sins. This brings us to the passage of the unworthy servant.

KJV Luke 17:7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?

8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.

10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

Those who boast that they, of their own free will, have chosen to follow God are sorely mistaken. God first drew them to himself. No true seeker of God should be boasting about anything but what the Lord has done!!!

Dear God,

Please give all those who seek you, a sincere love of the truth, revealing that we are all the unprofitable servants of Luke 17. Help us all to recognize our roles and to do our duties, to turn away from pride, boasting, position and the love of money – To turn to humility, service, love, compassion for the weak and poor, and forgiveness. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
