Passing God’s Test
There is one key test that God’s word warns us about. We are told to test ourselves to see if we are in the faith. The consequence of this test are severe. If we pass from this earth with a failing grade our souls will face the wrath of God. Let’s first take a look at the passage that asks us to test ourselves.
NASB 2 Cor 13:5Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you–unless indeed you fail the test?
God wants us to be absolutely certain that “we are in the faith”, that we are believing in Christ. Have we been released from our bondage to our evil selfish desires? Are we actually living as authentic believers and followers of Christ and the Holy Spirit?
The Bible gives us quite a few related indicators and warnings. If we understand these we can really know whether Christ is in us – whether we pass this test.
The related passages are:
- Have we been punished Heb 12:5-11
- Are we being persecuted 2 Tim 3:8-17 Have You Been Punished? Are you being Persecuted?
- Are we living by the power of God 1 Cor 4:18-21; Col 1:3-12; Eph 3:8-13 Living By The Power Of God
- Are we more righteous than the teachers of the law Mat 5:17-20 God’s Shepherd WarningThe Good Shepherd, The Wolf, Or The Leopard
- Are you emboldened to come confidently into God’s presence, empowered with inner strength through his Spirit with Christ in your heart as you trust in him, allowing our roots to grow down into God’s love and keep you strong, understanding how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is, experiencing the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Only then will we be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God! Eph 3:8-13
Bring us to your feet, to humbly seek you with all our heart, to turn from self ambition, pride, and hatred to service, humility and love. Help us to accept our lot, to know that we are the humble servants of Luke 17. We deserve no glory. At best we are unprofitable servants who have only done our duty!
Dear God, help us to find and do our duty, to honor you, to bring you glory, to find and do your will, In Jesus mighty name we pray, Amen.

The Bible tells us that God punishes all his children. It declares that all who live a godly life will be persecuted. We also see that his children live by his power, that Christianity is not just a lot of talk! There is a related passage that declares that we need to be more righteous than the teachers of the law to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Punished by God
NLT Heb 12: 5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said,
“My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t give up when he corrects you.
6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? 8 If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all. 9 Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?
10 For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. 11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening―it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
Persecuted By The Teachers of the Law
KJV 2 Tim 3:8Now as Jannes and Jambres[Pharaoh’s enchanters] withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.
10But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.[Gal 4:9 tells us that our persecutors are the “teachers of the law”!!]
13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
If we are living a Godly life we will be persecuted. Galatians actually tells us where the persecution comes from. Those who live godly lives are persecuted by the teachers of the law.
NLT Galatians 4:29 But you are now being persecuted by those who want you to keep the law, just as Ishmael, the child born by human effort, persecuted Isaac, the child born by the power of the Spirit.
This really explains what is going on in our churches. These teachers of the Law are children born by human effort. They are persecuting the children who are born of the Holy Spirit! Those who seek the ordination of men, who carry the leaven of self-ambition and hypocrisy are the children born of human effort. They are Presumer – Performers. They are the teachers of the law. They have not been born of the Holy Spirit!! To be born of the spirit we must turn from flesh to spirit but these men are clearly flesh eaters! They survive off the flesh[the worldliness] of their followers. They are still blinded by their pride. The are not relying on the Holy Spirit. They are not new creations in Christ because they rely on their own efforts.
Living By The Power Of God
NLT 1 Cor 4:18 Some of you have become arrogant, thinking I will not visit you again. 19 But I will come―and soon―if the Lord lets me, and then I’ll find out whether these arrogant people just give pretentious speeches or whether they really have God’s power. 20 For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power. 21 Which do you choose? Should I come with a rod to punish you, or should I come with love and a gentle spirit?
So are we living by God’s power? I think we need a little more information from the word. What really is this living by God’s power?
Paul’s Thanksgiving and Prayer
NLT Col 1:3 We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, 5 which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.
6 This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.
7 You learned about the Good News from Epaphras, our beloved co-worker. He is Christ’s faithful servant, and he is helping us on your behalf. 8 He has told us about the love for others that the Holy Spirit has given you.
9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
So has your life been changed, are your strengthened by his power [filled with endurance, patience and joy always thinking of the father]
God’s mysterious plan
NLT Eph 3:6 And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus. 7 By God’s grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News.
8 Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. 9 I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning.
10 God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. 13 So please don’t lose heart because of my trials here. I am suffering for you, so you should feel honored.
Paul’s Prayer for Spiritual Growth
14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
Are you emboldened to come boldly and confidently into God’s presence , empowered with inner strength through his Spirit with .Christ in our heart as you trust in him, allowing our roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong, understanding how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is, experienceing the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Only then will we be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God!
More Righteous Than The Teachers of The Law
NLT Matt 5:17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
20 “But I warn you―unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!
Are you still pretending to follow God? Are righteous? Have you turned from your evil selfish desires? Have you turned from deliberate sin??
