Addiction, Communing With Demons
The Bible calls it eating and drinking at the table with demons. We are told that we sit either at the Lord’s table or at the table of demons. I think this image, this eating and drinking with demons describes someone trapped in their idols and addictions, honoring their idols above God. This is really turning away from God. Let’s dig into this passage.
NLT 1 Cor 10:12If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
14So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols. 15You are reasonable people. Decide for yourselves if what I am saying is true. 16When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ? 17And though we are many, we all eat from one loaf of bread, showing that we are one body. 18Think about the people of Israel. Weren’t they united by eating the sacrifices at the altar?
19What am I trying to say? Am I saying that food offered to idols has some significance, or that idols are real gods? 20No, not at all. I am saying that these sacrifices are offered to demons, not to God. And I don’t want you to participate with demons. 21You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too. 22What? Do we dare to rouse the Lord’s jealousy? Do you think we are stronger than he is?
Everyone experiences temptation so prepare yourself. God promises to strengthen us against temptation and to lead us to endure through them. This way to endurance starts by ‘fleeing from the worship of idols’. Idols are anything that takes God’s rightful place in our lives. If we allow anything or anyone to matter more than God we have an idol. We overcome idols by making sure to keep God first. If we are relentlessly seeking him, his will and his glory we can endure.
When we honor God by keeping him first we can hold every thought captive to Christ, pray continually, and live in Christ as his new creation.
When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, we are sharing in the blood [life force, the Holy Spirit] of Christ, and when we break the bread, we are sharing in the body of Christ [sharing in his word and assembly]. This communing together with Christ transforms us into one body[Real Communion Services].
We are told not to participate with demons. We can not allow ourselves to drink from the cup of the Lord [following the Holy Spirit] and from the cup of demons [following Demons spirits and idols], too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s table[follow the word, Jesus] and at the table of demons[following the flesh], too. Attempting either of these will bring the Lord’s jealous anger [his wrath] down on us.
NLT 2 Tim 2:19 But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: The Lord knows who are his, and All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.
If we truly believe in God, if we are following him, we are turning from evil.
The following passages on cutting off your hand and plucking out your eye show how serious this is. God is not joking around here. It is not our eyes or hands that lead us into sin. The Bible tells us that the cause is evil thoughts that come out of our impure hearts. These verses are telling us to cut out these thoughts that lead us into sin. To remove these idols from the thrones that our evil minds have placed them on and to allow God to purify our hearts. When we look at our recurring sins we see patterns. We should not only remove the physical triggers that pull us into sin, but we must dethrone the idols. The key is keeping God on the Throne. This is accomplished as we show our love for God through our obedience, and our attention, seek only his glory and his will.
NLT Mark 9:43If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands. 45If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one foot than to be thrown into hell with two feet. 47And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It’s better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out. 49 For everyone will be tested with fire[trials]. 50Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.
Bottom line here is that we are to cut off whatever causes us to sin. We are to cut out these idols and turn from our evil selfish nature, allowing God to clean out our heart and make us pure. The Bible says that out of the heart comes the things that defile us.
NLT Mark 7: 20 And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. 21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
NLT James 1:14Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
To stay on God’s narrow path for us we should be wary of these indicators. When we start to think evil thoughts: sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness, we need to pull back and turn our attention to God, holding every thought captive to the Lord. These evil thought are indicators that we are not praying continually, not successfully holding every thought captive to the Lord, not seeking his will and his glory!
Each day we choose, Am I going to really trust and honor God today, or am I still trying to run this show? We are either seeking and praying, growing in and thru his Word and Holy Spirit, developing both our faith and trust in him; or we are trusting in ourselves, turning from him, losing our faith and trust in him. The first group is becoming a new creation in Christ, gaining spiritual sight, being freed from sin, serving God, serving others and becoming the new creation in Christ. The second group is losing faith, becoming spiritually blind, being bound by sin, serving Satan, using others, and losing their salvation.
NLT 2 Cor 6:15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
God’s Holy Spirit is in those who follow Christ, living inside them leading them into all truth, telling them about the future, telling them all that Jesus has for them – IF THEY ARE LISTENING!.
NIV Rom 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship . 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Our reasonable act of worship is to offer our lives as a living holy sacrifice to the Lord. If we are still following in the patterns of the world we are on the wrong track. God wants to change and renew us. When we cooperate with in this we can know [and do!] his will.
NLT Ps 51:1 Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. 2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. 3 For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.5 For I was born a sinner― yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. 6 But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there. 7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean ; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me― now let me rejoice. 9 Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. 10 Create in me a clean heart , O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. 13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you. 14 Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness. 15 Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you. 16 You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. 18 Look with favor on Zion and help her; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then you will be pleased with sacrifices offered in the right spirit― with burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings. Then bulls will again be sacrificed on your altar. [The daily sacrifice will be restored]

|HOW TO GET RID OF SIN / DEMONS / ADDICTIONS …|
Please help us to overcome our addictions and their associated idols by simply offering our lives as a living sacrifice, to keep you first in our lives, to become pure and holy vessels that you can use for every good work. We trust that you have the power to accomplish this as we live in and through you. Grow our faith and help us to appreciate and trust in your power. In The Mighty Name Of Jesus Christ, Amen.

I think this passage provides a good recap of this discussion.
All People Are Sinners
NLT Romans 3:11
9 Well then, should we conclude that we Jews are better than others? No, not at all, for we have already shown that all people, whether Jews or Gentiles, are under the power of sin. 10 As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous― not even one . 11 No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. 12 All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one .” 13 “Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.” “Snake venom drips from their lips.” 14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” 15 “They rush to commit murder. 16 Destruction and misery always follow them. 17 They don’t know where to find peace.” 18 “They have no fear of God at all.” 19 Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. 20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
Christ Took Our Punishment
21 But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus. 27 Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. 28 So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.
God bless Glenn
