When God Hears Our Prayers

There are a number of passages that tell us when God hears our prayers. Its important for us to understand God’s requirements. I don’t think we can be very successful at hearing God, at hearing his Holy Spirit when we are doing things that keep him from hearing our prayers. Can we really expect to hear God’s voice when we are behaving in ways that keep him from hearing our prayers? I think that understanding these requirements is a necessary step towards communing with God, and Living in the Holy Spirit.

We are to seek and honor God, to serve him, to live righteous lives, to fear God and do his will. When we cease doing evil and learn to do good; when to seek judgment, reprove oppressors, and help orphans and widows; then God promises to hear our prayers.

Background:

Here are the passages that were used to develop this list. This list is certainly not complete. I think that it can also be considered to be redundant. I think you’ll get the idea when you look at the individual passages.

Desiring lusful pleasure keeps God from hearing our prayers

MKJV James 4:2 You desire, and do not have. You murder, and are jealous, and cannot obtain. You fight and war, yet you have not because you ask not. 3 You ask and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your lusts. 4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever desires to be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5 Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us yearns to envy? 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says, God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble. 7 Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

God will not hear a lustful selfish prayer!

God  hears the prayers of all who diligently seek him

MKJV 2 Chr2:15 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him , Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you while you are with Him. And if you seek Him, He will be found by you. But if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

When we seek and honor God, he hears our prayers

God hears the prayers of the Righteous

NLT Prov 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.

The Lord hears the prayers of the righteous.

God hears the prayers of his servants

NIV Dan 9:17 “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, O Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary.

He Hears the prayers of those who serve him.

God hears the prayers of those with the right attitude

MKJV Is 1:14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; they are a trouble to Me; I am weary to bear them . 15 And when you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; yea, when you make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood. 16 Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes; cease to do evil; 17 learn to do good; seek judgment, reprove the oppressor. Judge the orphan, plead for the widow. 18 Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD; though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; 20 but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

He hears the prayers of those with the right attitude; those ceaseing from evil; learning to do good; seeking judgment, reproving oppressors, and helping the orphan, and the widow.

God hears the prayers of men who honor their wives

MKJV 1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, husbands, live together according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel, the female, as truly being co-heirs together of the grace of life, not cutting off your prayers.

He hears the prayers of men who honor their wives as co-heirs of God’s grace.

God hears the prayers of the God fearing

MKJV John 9:30 The man answered and said to them, Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know from where He is, and He has opened my eyes. 31 But we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.

He hears the prayers of God fearers who do his will
