The Two Sides of Sex
If we can envision Sex as a coin with two faces we can better understand what happens. On one side of the coin we have sex as God planned it. On the other side is sex according today’s worldly wisdom. When we blindly fall into this mode of thinking the Devil has us right where he wants us. He is empowered to do his will; to steal, to kill, and to destroy. When we understand how God wants us to handle sex, we can see the dangers of applying the worldly behavioral norms. Let’s first look at God’s plan.
God’s word tells us to contain sex inside the marriage bed. Sex is a key ingredient in God’s plan for two separate individuals becoming one flesh.
NIV Matt 19; 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh ‘ ? 6 So they are no longer two, but one . Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”
The word tells us not to have sex before marriage, not to have sex outside of the true [man and woman] marriage relationship. It tell us that sex is for the ‘two becoming one’. Not many preachers are willing to discuss this, but God’s word is very clear. We are not even to look at another of the opposite sex with lust. All lust is to be channeled into marriage relationship.
Here’s another verse that warns us not to take sex casually.
NIV 1 Cor 6;16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh .” 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
This verse is specifically talking about prostitution, but the ramifications remain. Both casual or committed premarital sex merges our flesh with our partners. If we continually create this flesh bond and then tear it apart we damage ourselves. Separating flesh is not to be taken lightly. Imagine a wound that we continually tear open. Perhaps we can get used to the pain, but we don’t see the internal damage that results. We can expect depression, soul weakening, and spiritual decay. This is called out as a sin against the Holy Spirit. Believers who commit this sin are fouling his residence. Make no mistake about it, continuing in this sin will separate us from the Holy Spirit and ultimately cost us our salvation.
NKJV Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
May we all understand your plan and yield to your desires!
