The Missing Link – Silence

The Bible tells us God knows what we need, before we ask. yet we often spend far more time talking & concentrating on our mind, on our thoughts, on our wants, and little time seeking God’s thoughts and his wants. We have trouble staying quiet & listening for ,that still small voice, seeking the the Holy Spirit. Our society seems to have a aversion to quiet time. It seem that we are afraid to listen for his thoughts – afraid to allow him to change the way we think. We need to embrace our prayer life with the proper perspective. Your word warns that long winded prayers [Mark 12:40] tend to lack authenticity. Help us to first seek God, to let our requests be known, but then to trust God, to seek his wisdom,to yield to his will. Remembering that all along his spirit is praying for us, that he knows me far better than I ever will, that his will is to shape our lives along the same lines as his son. We have the confidence and understanding that God is on our side, so how can we lose, We just cooperate and trust in God’s promise to transform us by changing the way we think. He can break us free from our selfishness syndrome.

 

MKJV Luke20;46 Beware of the scribes who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the first seats in the synagogues, and the chief places at the feasts; 47 who devour widows’ houses, and make long prayers for a show; the same shall receive a more severe condemnation.

 

MSG Rom 8;26 Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray , it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. 27 He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. 28 That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. 29 God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. 30 After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun. 31 So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? 32 If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? 33 And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? 34 Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us-who was raised to life for us!-is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. 35 Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture: 36 They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one. 37 None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. 38 I’m absolutely convinced that nothing-nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, 39 high or low, thinkable or unthinkable-absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. God Is Calling His People.

 

NIV Rom 8;26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. More Than Conquerors 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. 31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 

CEV 25 However, we hope for something we have not yet seen, and we patiently wait for it.

26 In certain ways we are weak, but the Spirit is here to help us. For example, when we don’t know what to pray for, the Spirit prays for us in ways that cannot be put into words.

27 All of our thoughts are known to God. He can understand what is in the mind of the Spirit, as the Spirit prays for God’s people.

28 We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose,

29 and he has always known who his chosen ones would be. He had decided to let them become like his own Son, so that his Son would be the first of many children.

30 God then accepted the people he had already decided to choose, and he has shared his glory with them.

31 What can we say about all this? If God is on our side, can anyone be against us?

32 God did not keep back his own Son, but he gave him for us. If God did this, won’t he freely give us everything else?

33 If God says his chosen ones are acceptable to him, can anyone bring charges against them?

34 Or can anyone condemn them? No indeed! Christ died and was raised to life, and now he is at God’s right side, speaking to him for us.

35 Can anything separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble, suffering, and hard times, or hunger and nakedness, or danger and death?

36 It is exactly as the Scriptures say, “For you we face death all day long. We are like sheep on their way to be butchered.”

37 In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us.

38 I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future,

39 and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!

This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think . Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

 

 

 

Place Your Life Before God

MSG Rom 12;1-2 1So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life-and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. 2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

 

Living Sacrifices

NIV Rom 12;1-2 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

 

 

CEV Rom 12;1-2

1 Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That’s the most sensible way to serve God.

2 Don’t be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him.

 

Verses about seeking him

MKJV Matt6; 32 For the nations seek after all these things. For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow; for tomorrow shall be anxious for its own things. MKJV Matt 7;6 Do not give that which is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and tear you. 7 Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you. 8 For each one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened. 9 Or what man is there of you, if his son asks a loaf, will he give him a stone?

– God can free us from our ‘selfishness syndrome’

 

Get Serious

MSG James 4;1-6

1-2Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it.

2-3You wouldn’t think of just asking God for it, would you? And why not? Because you know you’d be asking for what you have no right to. You’re spoiled children, each wanting your own way.

4-6You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.”

 

Observations:

 

1. MSG Rom 8;26 God’s Spirit is praying in and for us,

4. With God on our side like this, how can we lose?

 

5. NLT Rom 12;2 but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

 

MSG Rom 12;2 ‘ fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it.

 

6. Allow God to free us from selfishness.

 

 

Prayer

Dear God, Help us to embrace our prayer life with the proper perspective. Your word warns that long winded prayers Mark 12:40 tend to lack authenticity. Help us to first seek you, to let our requests be known, but then to trust you, to seek your wisdom,to yield to your will. Remembering that your spirit is praying for us, that you know me far better than I ever will, that your will is to shape our lives along the same lines of your son. Give us the confidence and understanding that you are on our side so how can we lose, to cooperate and trust in your promise to transform us by changing the way we think
