Seeing Straight, Seeing With Spiritual Eyes

The Bible warns us of Spiritual Blindness. It also discusses dark vision. The crazy thing is that people can be totally blind (spiritually) without even knowing it! Those who see things from a Godly perspective have clear eyes, but even they are warned about “dark corners”. Let’s take a look at two key verses that address this issue.

Teaching about Money

Matt 16;19-25 19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. 22 “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! 24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?

First we are told not to build our treasure on Earth. Then we see the distinction between a good eye and a bad one. A good eye fills your whole body with light. A bad eye fills, your whole body with darkness. Then we get a stern warning. If we think we have a good eye, but are filled w/ darkness, how deep that darkness is!

Possessions

Luke 11;34 “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness. 35 Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. 36 If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.”

What are these dark corners? Perhaps the passage above can help us out here. Our eyes should be on the things of heaven not the worries of this life, certainly not money or even food and clothing. I think this is telling us that a good eye has a heavenly perspective and a bad eye has a worldly perspective. The dark corners are the places where our heavenly perspective is lost and a worldly perspective takes over. The following passage was a warning to the Israelites, that I think we need to pay attention to.

Jer 13;16 Give glory to the LORD your God before it is too late. Acknowledge him before he brings darkness upon you, causing you to stumble and fall on the darkening mountains. For then, when you look for light, you will find only terrible darkness and gloom. 17 And if you still refuse to listen, I will weep alone because of your pride. My eyes will overflow with tears, because the LORD’s flock will be led away into exile. 18 Say to the king and his mother, “Come down from your thrones and sit in the dust, for your glorious crowns will soon be snatched from your heads.” 19 The towns of the Negev will close their gates, and no one will be able to open them. The people of Judah will be taken away as captives. All will be carried into exile. 20 Open up your eyes and see the armies marching down from the north! Where is your flock— your beautiful flock— that he gave you to care for? 21 What will you say when the LORD takes the allies you have cultivated and appoints them as your rulers? Pangs of anguish will grip you, like those of a woman in labor! 22 You may ask yourself, “Why is all this happening to me?” It is because of your many sins! That is why you have been stripped and raped by invading armies. 23 Can an Ethiopian change the color of his skin? Can a leopard take away its spots? Neither can you start doing good, for you have always done evil.

We’ve seen this happen to Israel so we shouldn’t doubt that God means what he says here.

NLT Luke 6;39 Then Jesus gave the following illustration: “Can one blind person lead another? Won’t they both fall into a ditch? 40 Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.

This verse is talking about spiritual leaders. Blind Spiritual leaders have a worldly perspective. If we substitute “worldly” for “blind” this verse becomes:

Can a worldly teacher lead another? Won’t they both fall into a ditch? Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like (his Worldly) teacher!

I think this explains what is going on at today’s churches (Today’s Weak Churches), and why they are not working. Men are using worldly methods, to introduce others to a Spirit. No matter how hard we try, no matter how hard we push, this is not going to Work. God is Spirit. To understand him we need spiritual leaders. Not leaders who are building worldly monuments (church buildings) or those seeking followers (congregations), not leaders anchored to this world. Lets take a quick look at two passages that tell us not to gather followers.

Don’t Try To Build A Following – It Means You Distort The Truth

NLT Act 20;29 I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves , will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock. 30 Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following. 31 Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you—my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you.

Gal 6;13 And even those who advocate circumcision don’t keep the whole law themselves. They only want you to be circumcised so they can boast about it and claim you as their disciples. 14 As for me, may I never boast…

God doesn’t want us all gathering in our separate groups, honoring men. He wants us woven into one fabric (with numerous gatherings) all directly seeking him.

The Simple Biblical Call is for a Participatory Gathering (THE MAIN Believer Gathering Must be a Believer Gathering).

May God Bless You With Clear Spiritual Vision
